FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

United Way of Greater Moncton and Southeastern New Brunswick Launches 2024 Campaign: “For Those Who Can’t”

2024 Campaign Goal

(Moncton, NB – September 27, 2024) – The United Way of Greater Moncton and Southeastern New Brunswick is proud to announce the launch of its 2024 campaign, themed “For Those Who Can’t.” With a target of $2,400,000, this campaign shines a spotlight on the vital needs within our community, focusing on those who struggle silently—children who can’t find the acceptance they need, individuals who can’t succeed in housing without the appropriate supports, seniors who can’t access nutritious food, essentially for our neighbours and loved ones who can’t.

“We are dedicated to making a difference in the lives of our most vulnerable neighbors. The ‘For Those Who Can’t’ campaign is a call to our community to come together and support those who need us most,” said Nay O’Leary, Co-Chair of United Way’s Strategic Fundraising Cabinet. “Our strength lies in our collective efforts, and together, we have the power to create real change.”

Mischka Jacobs, Resource Development Director at United Way, emphasized the significance of community participation, stating, “Every contribution matters. Whether large or small, it adds up and compounds into significant impact. The ‘For Those Who Can’t’ campaign recognizes that everyone has the ability to drive change in the lives of others, and together, we can create a supportive environment for our neighbors who need it most.”

Co-Chair of United Way’s Strategic Fundraising Cabinet, Andre Comeau echoed this sentiment, adding, “This campaign is not just about raising funds; it’s about fostering solidarity and compassion within our community. We are calling on everyone to step up, volunteer, and contribute to meaningful initiatives that will help families and individuals navigate tough times.”

The 2024 campaign will run primarily from September through December, continuing the tradition of raising vital funds through workplace payroll deduction programs, individual and corporate donations, and special events. Last year, the incredible support from the community resulted in $2.3 million raised, directly benefiting more than 62,000 lives.

United Way invites the community and its partners as they embark on this important journey, ensuring that we all stand together “For Those Who Can’t.”

Meeting Community Needs & Filling in the Gaps

As part of United Way GMSENB’s ongoing effort to better serve our community:

Seniors’ Meal Program: United Way expanded it’s Seniors’ Meal Program to 3,000 meals that are prepared, packaged and delivered to approximately 300 vulnerable, low- income seniors, mobilizing many committed volunteers weekly to deliver to the senior’s homes. Without the ability to access food and meals from home, many of these seniors would be unable to stay in their homes due to their inability to maintain healthy, affordable, and consistent eating habits. The program delivers to locations in the Greater Moncton and Southeastern NB region, including Port Elgin, Riverside Albert, Petitcodiac and many points in between.

Peer Supported Housing: for over a decade, United Way has been working on affordable housing and continues to do so with its Peer Supported Housing initiative. In partnership with Salvus Clinic, United Way manages 6 Peer Supported Housing buildings, providing housing with on-site support to tenants who experience issues with mental health and chronic homelessness.

Impact of 211 NB: 211 NB is the free and confidential helpline trademarked to United Way, assisting over 132,000 people since launching in October 2020, connecting them with crucial resources to navigate life’s challenges.
