29 July 2024 – Moncton, NB: United Way of Greater Moncton & Southeastern New Brunswick reaffirms commitment to local, positive impact

Delivery of United Way GMSENB’s programs, initiatives, and services locally in partnership with community agencies and all levels of government will continue, independent of the new United Way Maritimes, which began operating in early July.

“We believe our unique programming and multi-year strategy is the right path forward to enhance our local community,” says Debbie McInnis, CEO of UWGMSENB. “For seven decades we have reflected and responded to the needs and concerns of the community in real time.”

United Way Maritimes combines the resources of seven United Way organizations across the region to share knowledge, scale ideas and programs, combine strategies, and streamline operations.

The Board of UWGMSENB opted to continue operating independently following more than two years of outside facilitation, review, and consideration.

“Local is what matters most to us: providing positive support of local agencies and partners and making an impact in our community,” says David Campbell Board Member of UWGMSENB. “We live here, and we have an informed understanding of the unique challenges and issues facing our region. We felt strongly that Board leadership and decision making should remain local.”

UWGMSENB has well-established, long-term relationships with unions, corporate donors, employees, and individuals; an expansive volunteer network, and a proven record of success with agency partnerships, collective impact initiatives and UWGMSENB programs.

The decision ensures that UWGMSENB programs and initiatives of its own – like YOU Turns and Peer Supported Housing – will continue. Additionally, UWGMSENB will remain the lead organization for 211 NB, a helpline that connects New Brunswick residents to social, community, and government supports 24/7. Funding for 211 NB is supported by two other NB United Way organizations.

While UWGMSENB will maintain its independence, it will continue to collaborate and innovate with United Way Maritimes and the independent United Way in Cape Breton on future projects aimed at benefiting communities.
